I believe the current tagging system worked as a first go around to creating product categories for what turned into such a massive marketplace, however I feel fully sorting the marketplace into a category system and using an additional tags layer for other minor descriptors will help the website go from users just using the "newest first" marketplace to actually "browsing" through categories instead of doing searching or only coming across the most recent products. Currently if you want to find things you have a vastly greater chance of finding something wanted and usable by knowing what you're looking for beforehand and searching for it, vs. accidentally discovering things by just looking at categories which hurts overall discoverability. This is further reinforcing most users to just browse the first few pages of the newest first marketplace by hiding the category tags under filtering which does keep a more minimal site design, however isn't always used or even discovered by all users since they may not even touch filtering options due to being in this "I want to discover something" mindset.
I feel adding formal product categories that can be on a lefthand sidebar or other type of placement (collapsible if needed for better visual design) to sort products into baseline categories, and then a tagging system or other type system can be layered on top of it to tag things with less important things like aesthetic style, included bonus features, etc. to aid in keeping searches refined.
This could also allow the paid boosting visibility system to allow more slots for more people paying for this feature, by allowing for slots per overall category. I just believe changes like this can overall keep Jinxxy both for avatars and miscellaneous assets without mixing the two too much clouding up results for people only looking for avatars, or vice versa.
